Studying really does pay off! I was very pleased overall with the test scores from our recent test over "location". Many students did a phenomenal job and earned a fantastic score because of their effort and hard work. I would publicly like to congratulate these students who went above and beyond the call of duty to score the highest grades on our first exam. Keep up the good work!!!
Welcome back from summer break. I am very excited to see all the new faces at Northwood Middle School this coming year. I have been working very hard to ensure that your child receives the best education possible. I look forward to covering many topics with you this year including Government, American History, Geography, and Economics. I hope to embed many projects and hands on activities throughout the course. This will require positive collaboration among teachers, students, and parents. I look forward to seeing everyone on Monday, August 19th, 2013. Order an policy governs our lives. Besides following the law we also live by certain social norms and societal standards which affect the way we behave, talk, and think about ourselves and others. What kind of person is created by Democracy? what kind of person is created by Dictatorships, theocracy, or, communism? how have the political decisions of the past and present affect our way of thinking? So many questions and so little time! In this Unit we will talk about government, not just our government but others as well. We had many students receive a good grade on the last Unit and I was overall very pleased. Please continue the great work Northwood Knights. Location, Location, Location! The question we are asking in this unit is how does where we live affect how we live? Every morning, we all wake up and go about our daily routines without realizing how much our surroundings really do affect us.
I used an example with my students about catfish. As much as I love to eat fried catfish, not everyone feels the same way about it. People in the Northeastern part of the United States do not eat very much catfish at all. It is because they live near the coast and have access to many more types of fish and crustaceans than we do in Arkansas. People in other parts of the country may not like chicken and dumplings as much as we Southerners adore it. Different regions of the United States have different cultures, geographies, climates, and outlooks on life simply because of their location. As we study this unit please feel free to talk to your student about how location has affected you and how it impacts your everyday life. We are truly products of our environment, so let's create an environment of discussion, inquiry, and understanding together. |
